Guess who’s taking serious steps to reduce their carbon footprint and partner with the local community?

As the new administration seeks to cut all climate and clean energy, we thought it was a good time to re-air our interview with Rebecca R. Rubin, Founder/CEO of Marstel Day, the environmental consulting firm that's been helping the U.S. government clean up their act for over 15 years.

The U.S. government agencies really are reducing their carbon footprint

Listen to Green Connections Radio host Joan Michelson’s conversation with Rebecca about"

  • the intersections between sustainability, climate change, and national security
  • How agencies have been actively cleaning up their act
  • Why government agencies are actively looking for “sustainable” solutions.
  • It may not be what you think…

With new legislation being voted on that could be a sign of what’s to come in state energy policy – aside from the mayors who are joining the climate agreement – we thought it was a good time to re-air our interview with Betsy McCorkle, head of governmental affairs at the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association (NCSEA).

According to The North State Journal in N.C., the new legislation “ aims to reshape the relationship between traditional utilities and renewable energy providers after a decades-long arranged marriage through the Renewable Energy Portfolio Standards (REPS) laws passed in 2007. “

Betsy works with legislators, state and local government officials, state agencies, the clean energy industry and allied organizations to educate them on clean energy issues and a related legislative agenda, so she’s on the front lines.

Listen to Green Connections Radio host Joan Michelson in conversation with Betsy to find out:

  • Where the utility industry is getting it right…and wrong.
  • What can the Congress and the statehouses do to get it right?
  • What is the NCSEA doing to nudge the utilities toward faster innovation?
  • How is the utility industry adapting to the new technologies and how does this parallel smart phones?
  • What tax incentives and rebates does your region offer?

Betsy shared a great website to find out about incentives and other programs in your state: Database of State Incentives for Renewable and Efficiency.

With government funding for energy innovations under threat, we thought it was a good idea to re-air this fascinating interview Dr. Ellen Williams, then-head of the Advanced Energy Research Agency, aka, ARPA-E, of the Department of Energy. ARPA-E is one of the entities in the Trump administration budget set to be cut -- yet they have generated extraordinary results supporting breakthrough energy innovations.

Listen to Green Connections Radio host Joan Michelson talk with Dr. Williams about:

  • Trends in energy breakthroughs – and what we need.
  • Why government funding is needed to drive innovation, especially in energy
  • Where the investments are going these days – a wind drone?!
  • Important elements to drive breakthrough innovation
  • Recommendations for building a career in this industry

You’ll want to take notes!

P.S. The audio on this is a bit wobbly it turns out, which is below our usual standards…sometimes technology does not cooperate as intended! Fortunately, Dr. Williams sounds much than I do. Thanks for understanding.
